Meet Yi Lin

Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Yi Lin is a first generation Chinese American who moved to the United States at the age of 15. During her childhood in China, Yi was an overachiever who impressed a lot of people with her academic achievements but at times struggled with her thoughts and emotions. She came to America hoping everything would change but had a difficult time assimilating into a different culture. She has first hand understanding of what it is like to be an outsider trying to fit in. She began experiencing symptoms of depression as a teenager and when she tried to seek help her parents didn't understand.

Yi was finally diagnosed with depression at age 21 and shortly after graduated from the University of California at Irvine with a degree in drama. With the help of a combination of treatment programs, Yi now leads a productive life as a working actor and standup comedian, with numerous commercial and voiceover credits. Her presentation provides an intimate look at the many challenges facing new immigrants and an insightful education on depression.
